Fishermen’s Farewell

@ Wilderness Festival

Three fishermen have washed up far from sea to seek YOUR help! Find their fishermen’s cabin and help them offer their catch of the day to the mighty Sea Cods! Through shanties, rituals and slippery mischief, help them send their prized fish on a journey into the next life.

First performed at Wilderness Festival 2025, this was a four hour performance created in partnership with 6FootStories which included improvised participatory scenes and late night psychedelic installations. Presented with the opportunity to develop an immersive work within a garden shed positioned on-site at the festival, OST created this piece about a group of fishermen who are down on their luck and seeking better fortune for the fishing year ahead. To achieve this, they make a wish to the Sea Cods, but things go badly wrong, and they need the audience’s help to appease their bad fortune.

This piece is in development/ bookable for future festivals - and can be stationary or walkabout.

Reviews by Audience Members

“The masterstroke of this fishy installation is its blending of interaction and slapstick skits with genuinely haunting performance art. The first half is a fully interactive world in the fishermen's cabin, with activities and interactions seamlessly shifting into verbal and visual comedy skits. In the second half it becomes a performance art installation, with the characters caught in an unsettling suspension of time, rocking back and forth in their fishing nets like the ebb and flow of the tide.”

“Ordinary Stories Theatre, have created something anything other than ordinary! A mesmerising moving installation that was a highlight of my festival, with incredible detail that enchanted audiences”

“What a brilliant experience stepping through the threshold into a whacky and wonderful world of fishing and friendship. You may not have met these fisher folk before but you soon become a part of their community through shared experience, fun and lots of wet fish.”
